Deathrun Rules
TSO Deathrun Rules
3.1 – Ghosting
You must not provide information to alive players while dead if that information could influence the outcome of the round.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Trap locations
- Trap codes
- Which traps have been activated
- Information about the opposing team’s position
- Information about upcoming traps
- Information that could otherwise give an alive player an advantage
For example, telling a runner the code for a trap on Helix while you are dead is prohibited.
3.2 – Delaying
Intentionally delaying or prolonging a round without attempting to progress is not allowed.
For example, if you are the last runner alive, you must make a reasonable attempt to progress through the course and bait traps rather than intentionally waiting for the round to end.
Deaths must also make a reasonable effort to progress the round when their role requires it.
3.3 – Griefing
You must not intentionally ruin the experience or gameplay of your own team or the opposing team outside of normal Deathrun gameplay.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Teamkilling
- Intentionally blocking teammates
- Deliberately preventing teammates from progressing
- Intentionally sabotaging your team
- Repeatedly interfering with normal gameplay
Normal gameplay mechanics and legitimate trap usage are not considered griefing.
3.4 – Death Avoiding
You must not intentionally avoid playing as a Death when you have been assigned the role.
This includes:
- Falsely going AFK
- Refusing to activate traps
- Intentionally ignoring runners
- Hiding to avoid interacting with the round
- Deliberately disconnecting or otherwise avoiding the Death role
Deaths are expected to actively participate in the round.
3.5 – Trap Stealing
You may not use another Death’s trap when they have already claimed it or were clearly at the trap first.
If another Death is actively using or waiting at a trap, allow them to use it.
Trap stealing includes deliberately taking a trap from another Death simply because you can activate it first.
3.6 – Trap Spam
You may not spam traps or activate traps without a legitimate reason.
Traps should generally only be activated when a runner is within the immediate vicinity of the trap.
Exceptions may apply to traps which are specifically designed to activate when a runner enters a particular area or reaches a particular point, such as:
- 50/50 traps
- Automatic traps
- Portals
- Similar map-specific mechanics
Traps must not be activated repeatedly simply to annoy players or prevent normal progression.
3.7 – Trap Reactivation
You may not activate a trap that has already been used during the current interaction with the trap.
If you are unsure whether a trap has already been activated, do not activate it.
This rule exists to prevent multiple Deaths from repeatedly triggering the same trap after another Death has already used it.
3.8 – Entrance & Portal Camping
You may not camp inside or directly around a portal or entrance with the intention of killing an opposing player as they enter or exit.
You may wait near a portal provided that:
- The opposing player can clearly see you
- They are able to leave the portal area normally
- You do not prevent them from exiting
- You do not attack them while they are still stuck inside the portal
You may not stand inside portals or doorways in a way that prevents players from passing through.
3.9 – Prop Abuse
You may not pick up or use map props for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage, griefing, blocking players, or otherwise interfering with normal gameplay.
Props should not be moved unless there is a legitimate gameplay reason to do so.
Using props to obstruct players, traps, entrances, or paths is prohibited.
3.10 – Begging
Begging for rewards, points, ranks, staff positions, or other benefits is not permitted.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Point begging
- Rank begging
- Staff begging
- Item or reward begging
- Repeatedly asking other players or staff for benefits
Repeated begging after being asked to stop may result in disciplinary action.
3.11 – Trap Blocking
You may not block another Death’s view or access to a trap.
This includes:
- Standing directly in front of a trap
- Blocking the trap controls
- Blocking a Death’s line of sight
- Using props or your player model to prevent another Death from using their trap
You must allow other Deaths reasonable access to the traps they are responsible for.
3.12 – Team Communication
You must not intentionally use team communication to give your team an unfair advantage outside of normal gameplay.
Deaths may communicate with other Deaths about normal gameplay, but may not use communication to:
- Coordinate griefing
- Deliberately sabotage another Death
- Give alive players information while dead
- Circumvent the ghosting rule
Communication must remain within the intended mechanics of the game mode.
3.13 – Spectator Information
You may not use information obtained while spectating to influence the current round.
This includes communicating information about players, traps, locations, or events to players who are still participating in the round.
Spectating a player does not give you permission to provide them with information they could not otherwise obtain.
3.14 – AFK
You must not intentionally remain AFK during an active round in order to avoid participating.
If you need to step away, use the appropriate AFK system where available.
Repeatedly going AFK to avoid playing Death or Runner may be treated as Death Avoiding or Delaying.
3.15 – Map Exploits
You may not intentionally abuse map bugs, glitches, exploits, or unintended mechanics to gain an advantage.
This includes:
- Getting outside the intended course
- Bypassing traps
- Becoming inaccessible to the opposing team
- Getting stuck intentionally
- Using map exploits to skip sections
- Exploiting unintended collision or movement behaviour
If you discover an exploit, report it to staff rather than intentionally abusing it.
3.16 – Movement & Course Blocking
You may not intentionally block a player from progressing through the intended Deathrun course.
This includes:
- Standing in narrow passages to prevent progression
- Blocking doors or entrances
- Body-blocking players into traps
- Intentionally preventing a runner from reaching a trap
- Blocking another Death from accessing their area
Normal gameplay interactions are permitted where they are part of the intended map mechanics.
3.17 – Round Manipulation
You may not intentionally manipulate the round to produce an unfair or unintended outcome.
This includes deliberately causing:
- Unnecessary round resets
- Team changes to gain an advantage
- Repeated suicides
- Exploiting map mechanics to end or extend rounds
- Other actions intended to circumvent normal Deathrun gameplay
3.18 – Team Switching
You may not intentionally switch teams or otherwise manipulate team assignment to gain an unfair advantage.
You must not switch teams to:
- Avoid playing Death
- Avoid playing Runner
- Join friends for an unfair advantage
- Influence the outcome of an active round
- Circumvent a punishment or restriction
3.19 – Death & Runner Cooperation
Deaths and runners must play their assigned roles fairly.
You may not intentionally cooperate with the opposing team to manipulate the outcome of a round.
This includes:
- Allowing friends to progress intentionally
- Refusing to use traps against specific players
- Intentionally killing or eliminating teammates
- Giving the opposing team information
- Agreeing to manipulate the result of a round
Normal friendly interaction is permitted provided it does not affect gameplay.
3.20 – AFK / Unresponsive Players
If a player becomes genuinely AFK or unresponsive during a round, you are not required to deliberately delay the round waiting for them.
You must not intentionally pretend to be AFK to avoid gameplay.
3.21 – Fair Play
Players are expected to play Deathrun as intended.
You must not intentionally exploit loopholes in these rules or the game mode to gain an unfair advantage.
If a situation is not specifically covered by these rules, staff may take action where behaviour clearly goes against the intended gameplay or significantly negatively impacts the experience of other players.
